Hungarian cafe owner and showman

Although film was first shot in Hungary in 1896 by Arnold Sziklay, the film programmes put on by Mór Ungerleider at his Velence Café in Budapest laid the true roots of filmmaking in the country. Having originally simply projected film, Ungerleider adapted his projector to shoot film and in 1898 formed the Projectograph firm with former stage performer Jozsef Neumann. Projectograph showed films shot by Jozsef Becsi as well as imported film, rented and sold cinema equipment. Ungerleider continued to be a major force in Hungarian film exhibtion into the 1910s, operating the Apollo Cinema in Budapest, for many years the largest in Hungary.
